In freezing conditions, your boiler’s condensate pipe might become frozen and stop your heating from working.  If this happens, you don’t need to wait for an engineer to call out to repair the issue.

To thaw the pipe yourself and get your heating running again, just follow the steps below.

  1. Find your boilers condensate pipe. It will be plastic unlike the other metal pipes connected to the boiler.
  2. Identify where the pipe has frozen. This will often be where there’s a bend or dip in the pipe. It will feel colder to touch than the rest of the pipe.
  3. Unfreeze the blockage by applying a hot water bottle or warm wet cloth to the frozen part of the pipe.

When the blockage is removed your boiler should turn back on, and your heating should work as normal.
