Hello!

Welcome to our November blog update about our work in Somerton.

Our Resident Steering Group met on the 1 November at Nexus House, and online via Teams. We had seven residents and one Councillor attend the meeting online and at Nexus House. Tony and Terry from Oxford Architects attended at the meeting.

Tony talked through the design activity we have been working on, please download the minutes for this detail.

Project Plan

We are working to our project plan, which includes timescale and a phasing plan for each area of the regeneration works (demolish and build new homes). This is a working document and all dates are provisional and could be subject to change.

Design Update

The scan of the underground utilities on the Acacia Avenue, Acacia Square and Myrtle Grove involving access to gardens has taken place.

Floor plans for the 4-bedroom 6-person houses and the 4-bedroom 7-person houses have also been developed. We have worked on drawing up street elevations of how the flats and house will look from Chepstow Road down into Acacia Avenue.

Further designs for Acacia Avenue have been developed and been submitted to Newport City Council planning department. We have received their comments and will be meeting to discuss them with the design team.

We met with Newport City Council to discuss the allotments and the reprovision of them throughout the phases, they were happy with this approach.

We will look to further develop the house and apartment layouts during this time. We will also be looking to further develop the designs for the remaining phases of the site.

We are working with our internal NCH colleagues to look at the properties that will be refurbished to ensure the works that are carried out are the right approach for these properties.

Communication

We are looking to hold a community consultation event, we were looking to hold this in December but we need to ensure that we have plans that the community can comment on.

The plans we will show will be for Acacia Avenue (Phase 1) and it will show the houses, apartment blocks, the green open space and the play area. There will be plans on display for the other phases, however these will not be as developed as Acacia Avenue.

If you do any questions relating to the regeneration plans and your home please contact me on the email below.
