Hello!

Welcome to our May blog update about our work in Somerton

Our May Resident Steering Group met on the 3 May at Nexus House, and online via Teams. We had 8 residents attend the meeting online and at Nexus House. Andrew from Oxford Architects attended at the meeting. Andrew talked through the design activity we have been working on, please see minutes for this detail.

Read the minutes in full here.

Home Options

Sally Dixon, Neighbourhood Manager for Somerton attended the meeting to talk through getting NCH customers registered on Newport City Council Home Options. This registration is to ensure that we are able to move households to their new home, whether that is in Somerton or to other areas of Newport. As a housing association we have signed up to this process and they process all offers of social housing accommodation

Sally has been making contact with NCH customers, if you haven’t registered for home options as yet or have questions you wish to discuss please contact Sally Dixon – sally.dixon@newportcityhomes.com or 01633 227675

Design Update

We are carrying on with getting up to date survey information, we will be carrying out acoustic surveys over the next few weeks. We will also be carrying out ecology surveys and transport surveys over the coming months

We reminded the group of the map that we are working on that shows areas for regeneration and areas for refurbishment, these are being constantly reviewed to ensure we are providing the best design for each area.

In March we submitted the concept submission to Welsh Government, this shows our outline plans for Somerton, we have received feedback and approval form Welsh Government, this means the next step will be to submit a pre-application to Newport City Council to get their feedback on the designs

Tender information for the refurbishment of the 2 pilot properties is live for contractors to look at and put a bid in for the works. We have had contractors look around these two properties, closing date to submit a bid for these works is the 2nd June. We will be marking tenders between the 5th – 16th June, we will also get some of the steering group to help with the marking

Communication

An updated newsletter will be going out in the next few weeks, this is to show what we have been working on and what will be happening over the course of this year

We will also be having a community consultation event coming up in the summer,  every household will have an invite to the event posted through their door
