Alex Griffiths worked for several interesting organisations after graduating with a degree in photojournalism from Swansea University. She wrote articles for a news website in Bristol, did digital engagement with Virgin Atlantic and spent time in customer service roles on the telephone.

Then Alex spotted an apprenticeship in Social Media for Business with NCH.

Alex said:

“This vacancy was an amalgamation of my previous jobs. It was meeting in the middle with writing, researching and social media.

“I have always enjoyed helping customers and could see this would be a new area of the business and there would be a lot of learning which I wanted.

“It was the perfect combination. I was interviewed on Friday and told I would get a call by Tuesday. My phone rang later that day and I was offered the job. It was a good day to start the weekend!”

In April 2021 she started at NCH and began her career in housing and social media.

“I had never worked in housing or knew there were roles like this in the sector. But as an apprenticeship it was perfect as I would be learning alongside working in the job.

“This was a step on the career ladder in a direction that I wanted to go in. I think I had just been cruising for a while and never found my niche - and it’s good to think that I’ll get an apprenticeship that proves I can do this work.  It’s another thing I can pack in my arsenal!

“A good thing is I have been able to choose modules to study that I think will benefit both the business and myself.”

Alex has chosen areas including communicating with customers via social media and video editing.

“I enjoy working out how to get content seen and figuring out the best ways to use social media to engage with customers. The platforms change all the time, so we have to keep adapting how we communicate.”
