The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is making a second cost of living payment of £300 this year. For eligible claimants, the payment will be between 31 October and 19 November.

What is it?

The £300 payment is the second of a £900 package this financial year, following the first £300 payout in the Spring. It's a commitment from the UK Government to support households receiving means-tested benefits. Another £300 is due in 2024.

Who is eligible?

Households who receive the following means-tested benefits are eligible:

You must have been entitled, or later found entitled, to one of these between 18 August and 17 September 2023. Eligible pensioner households will get another £300 payment later this year. This is in addition to the Winter Fuel Payment.

If you're a pension on a low-income, and not receiving pension credit, you should check your eligibility. You could still qualify for this second payment, as well as the third payment due in Spring 2024.

What do I need to do?

The payment will automatic, in the same way you receive your benefits or tax credits. You won't need to apply, contact HM Revenues and Customs (HMRC), or take any other action.

If you think you are eligible and haven't received the payment by 20 November, you can report a missing payment.
