Our communities are generally great places to live, but there can be times when they are affected by anti-social behaviour (ASB). This can affect the well-being and sense of security of the local community.

We take reports of ASB very seriously and will do everything within our power to put things right.

One of our Neighbourhood Managers, Abi Parker, was in court yesterday for a return hearing for an Anti-social Behaviour Injunction against a customer who caused serious and very concerning issues for the neighbours in the block of flats where they live.

The fire brigade was called when the customer had emptied the contents of their home outside onto the communal grassed area next to a block of flats, and then set fire to a mattress.

The customer was verbally abusive towards the Fire Officers and smashed the windows to their flat with a claw hammer, throwing broken glass at the officers. They then barricaded themselves within the flat and made more threats to set fire to the property. Police were called and the neighbouring homes had to be evacuated.

We went to court to ask for an emergency injunction against the customer to prevent them from returning to their home, due to the risk imposed to neighbours and the fear he had instilled. This is called an exclusion order.

It is usually very difficult to persuade a Judge to exclude someone from their own home, but an interim order was given as they Judge said this was a hugely concerning and alarming case.

At the return hearing on 5 July, the Judge agreed to extend the order for 12 months, stating that he recognised the need for the injunction to remain in place to protect the community.
