The way you rent has changed… for tenants and landlords.

The Renting Homes Act is the biggest change to housing law in Wales for decades. It affects all customers, and we are here to support you.

From 1 December 2022, the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 has changed the way all landlords in Wales rent their homes. It improves how we rent, manage, and live in rented homes – which is good news for all of us.

Hear from our team on how it affects you:

So what does this mean for me?
Under the new law, tenants and licencees have become 'contract-holders'. Your tenancy agreement has been replaced with an 'occupation contract'.

The new law makes renting easier and provides greater security.

For our customers, this means:

  • receiving a written contract setting out your rights and responsibilities
  • an increase in the ‘no fault’ notice period from two to six months
  • greater protection for you from eviction
  • improved succession rights if you want to pass on your home to family or carers
  • more flexible arrangements for joint contract-holders, making it easier to add or remove others to an occupation contract

Where can I find more information?
To find out more about the new legislation and the impact it will have on both tenants and landlords, have a look at the Welsh Government’s website here.

What should I do next?
We know change can be hard, and housing law is complicated, but we are here to help. We are sending new contracts to all customers between 1st December 2022 and 1st June 2023.

If you haven't received your new contract yet, you can view an example copy here.
