Hello!

Welcome to our September blog update about our work in Somerton.

Our September Resident Steering Group met on the 6 September at Nexus House, and online via Teams. We had 9 residents and 3 Councillors attend the meeting online and at Nexus House. Tony and Terry from Oxford Architects attended at the meeting.

Tony talked through the design activity we have been working on. You can read the minutes in full here.

Project Plan

We are working to our project plan, which includes timescale and a phasing plan for each area of the regeneration (demolish and build new homes) works. This is a working document and all dates are provisional and could be subject to change.

Design Update

We will be looking to commission a scan of the underground utilities on the Acacia Avenue, Acacia Square and Myrtle Grove, this will involve access to gardens, we will be writing out to those living in this area to advise of the works.

Further designs for Acacia Avenue have been developed and been submitted to Newport City Council planning department. We are awaiting their comments.

We will look to further develop the house and apartment layouts during this time. We will also be looking to further develop the designs for the remaining phases.

Some of the steering group, NCH and councillor visited Taylor lane who are a company that provide timber frame houses and apartment blocks on the 10th August. We visited the head office where all the architect designs are put together, we then saw the factories where the wall panels, flooring and roof trusses are all put together. It was a really interesting visit to see how they make their houses.

We are looking at the refurbishment programme and are looking at the Net zero, EPC A and EPC C options. Our plan is to still carry out the refurbished works on the 2 pilot properties first. This has been delayed slightly while we are looking into the options available.

Communication

The newsletter was sent out via Royal Mail on Friday 1st September, everyone should have received a copy by now, if you haven’t please let me know.

Our Community Development Team alongside Rebecca, Phillip and Prav from the Regeneration team were out on the trailer in Somerton on Thursday 7th September, 10am – 4:00pm. We saw a good number of residents and talked them through the newsletter and what this meant for them and their home.

We will attended the Somerton Councillor Surgery which was also on Thursday 7th September, 7pm at the Hope Centre. We had a good attendance and answered a range of questions.
