Welcome to our August blog update about our work in Somerton.
Our August Resident Steering Group met on the 2nd at Nexus House, and online via Teams. We had 5 residents and 3 Councillors attend the meeting online and at Nexus House. Terry from Oxford Architects attended at the meeting.
Terry talked through the design activity we have been working on, please see minutes for this detail.
Project Plan
We are working to our project plan, which includes timescale and a phasing plan for each area of the regeneration (demolish and build new homes) works. This is a working document and all dates are provisional and could be subject to change.
Design Update
We met with the planning team at Newport City Council to talk them through our proposed designs for Somerton, out of this there are changes that we need to make to the designs and we will be working on this over the next couple of months
There have also been changes to the requirements for the works we are looking to carry out on the 2 refurbished pilot properties. Welsh Government are now looking for works to be carried out to EPC C, we are looking into the works required to meet this standard. We had planned to start the works on these 2 properties in July, this has been delayed while we look into this.
Some of the steering group will be visiting Taylor Lane who are a company that produce timber frame houses and flats. We are looking to use Taylor Lane for phase 1 (Acacia Avenue), the visit will include a look at their factory, then a housing development site where they are providing the frames for houses and bungalows
Communication
We will still be delivering a newsletter to every home in Somerton, we are currently working on the content of the newsletter and it will be hand delivered in the coming weeks
Our Community Development Team will be out and about in Somerton on Thursday 7th September, 10am – 4:00pm. There will be members from the Regeneration and Development team in attendance so if you have any questions please pop by and see us
We will also be attending the Somerton Councillor Surgery on Thursday 7th September, 7pm at the Hope Centre
