Our Coverack Road development includes 76 new one and two-bedroom apartments on the riverbank of the River Usk.
COVID-19 has meant we’ve needed to change the way we would normally work with our local communities. Recently, we were delighted to invite local pupils from Maindee Primary School for our first virtual site visit to our Coverack Road development.
Three classes from the school took part in the visit online from their classrooms.
NCH Development and Partnerships Coordinator, Laura Palfrey, explains:
“Coverack is just down the road from Maindee Primary School, and we’ve been working closely with local pupils to help them learn about the different work which goes into building a new development.
“This includes pupils designing posters for site safety, which will be used to decorate the hoarding around the site, and a competition for pupils to come up with a name for the new development.
“Normally, we’d invite pupils to come to site for a tour - letting them see the site progress as we’re building and teaching them about all the different work that goes into building a new development. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we haven’t been able to invite the students to site, but having a virtual tour worked really well, and we’re pleased to be able to continue our fantastic partnership with Maindee Primary School.”
NCH is partnering with Jehu Group to deliver the new homes at Coverack Road, and the team was onsite to deliver the tour for pupils.
Laura added:
‘’The virtual tour was amazing – it’s so lovely to be innovative during these times and still be able to engage with the children and school. The children had some fantastic questions – from how we keep safe to what we do during break times - and it was great to see them listening and watching us head around on the site tour.
“The apartments will be available for social housing, sales and rent-to-own, so it’s a really exciting development for NCH, and we’re really proud to be able to share this with the local community.’’
Emily Bruce, a teacher at Maindee Primary said;
‘’I just want to say a huge thank you for the video calls, the children absolutely loved them and considering we cannot visit the site, we took lots of information away from the call.”
NCH has also supported the school with £3,600 of funding from our Community Benefits fund, which has been used to purchase new Chromebooks.
