Welcome to our December blog post about our work in Somerton.

Our Resident Steering Group met on the 6 December at Nexus House, and online via Teams. We had 6 residents attend the meeting online and at Nexus House. Tony and Terry from Oxford Architects attended at the meeting.

Project Plan

We are working to our project plan, which includes timescale and a phasing plan for each area of the regeneration (demolish and build new homes) works. This is a working document and all dates are provisional and could be subject to change.

Design update

We will be carrying out further bat surveys and will be carrying out reptile surveys on land that belong to NCH and Newport City Council in 2024, these surveys will be carried out during specific times of the year.

We have received positive feedback from the pre-application we submitted to Newport City Council on the plans for Acacia Avenue (Phase 1), where they have provided feedback/comments we will be working through these to ensure they are incorporated into the designs.

We have met with Gwent Police to go through the designs for Acacia Avenue to ensure we are meeting secure by design standards, so the new development is safe and secure for its news residents and for the surrounding residents.

The properties/areas that are down to be refurbished will be carried out by our Assets team. We have secured funding from Welsh Government to bring 9 empty properties back in to use and we are in discussions with Newport City Council to look at bringing the other empty properties back in to use.

Communication

We are looking to hold a community consultation event, we were looking to hold this now in early 2024 but we need to ensure that we have plans that the community can comment on. The plans we will show will be for Acacia Avenue (Phase 1) and it will show the houses, apartment blocks, the green open space and the play area. There will be plans on display for the other phases, however these will not be as developed as Acacia Avenue.
