Hello!

Welcome to our April blog update about our work in Somerton

Our April Resident Steering Group met on the 5 April at Nexus House, and online via Teams. We are no longer using Zoom as our online joining platform; we will be using a platform called Teams. We had 8 residents and 3 Councillors attend the meeting online and at Nexus House. Andrew and Terry from Oxford Architects attended at the meeting. Andrew talked through the design activity we have been working on, please see minutes for this detail.

You can see the April minutes in full here.

Design Update

Survey works are progressing, we have carried out Ground Investigation works to NCH owned properties and are progressing with these surveys being carried out on Newport City Council land. These surveys look at the make up and stability of the ground.

We have been looking at the house types we have received from TopHat and overlaying them onto the Acacia Avenue site, these were shown at the steering group

For the 2 pilot properties that we will be refurbishing we will be going out to tender soon, we have sent out Expression if Interests (EOI) to contractors and have received confirmation from several contractors stating they will be bidding for this work, this is good as it shows there are interested contractors wanting to take on this type of refurbishment works.

Communication

We are looking to carry out Topographical surveys, these surveys look at the level in the land, nark out fences, out building, drainage etc. We will be hand delivering a letter to our NCH customers where we would like to carry out these surveys.

We realise it has been some time since our last community consultation event and we had planned on holding one in March, however we haven’t had the information from the surveys we have had carried out to be able to progress the deigns. We will look to hold the next event in June, invites will be hand delivered to every home in Somerton prior to the event
