Since 2017, Welsh housing associations have been able to pay board members for their services and as a result of that decision, our board has considered the merits and risks of such an approach during the last eighteen months.

Following its considerations on the payment of board members, our board has recently approved board payment ‘in principle’, and we now have a committee set up to seek the views of residents, staff and stakeholders before the board makes its final decision in November.

A number of housing associations in Wales have introduced payment of board members, or are considering payment and this has resulted in the market for housing association board members becoming increasingly competitive.

We are seeking resident views on the principle of paying board members and would welcome your views and feedback, and this will be shared with the board to inform its final decision.

We’ve created a briefing note, which explains the reasoning behind the board’s in principle decision.

You can share your views with Joanna Fairley, Head of Governance & Compliance by telephone, 01633 227644 or by email Joanna.fairley@newportcityhomes.com by 22 October 2019.

We look forward to hearing from you.
