We’ve published our latest Gender Pay Gap report 2021, you may ask why we need to do this - any company with over 250 colleagues need to complete the gender pay gap exercise each year and publish their Gender Pay Gap Report on their website and submit their data to GOV.UK Gender Pay Gap Service.

The Newport City Home report is available on our website and relates to pay information as at 5 April 2021 and reports on two measures – the mean and median:

  • Mean hourly rate is the average hourly wage across the entire association
  • Median hourly rate is calculated by ranking all colleagues from the highest paid to the lowest paid, taking the hourly wage of the colleague in the middle.

Our Gender Pay Gap – what does it tell us?

  • Women earn 99p for every £1 that men earn when comparing median hourly wages
  • The median hourly wage gap at NCH is 1.0%, which compares positively against the Office of National Statistics (ONS) median gender pay gap of 15.4% in 2021
  • The mean hourly wage gap at NCH is 0.8%

These figures tell us we’re doing well compared to the national average, but we know we can still do more to improve.

How we use this information

We use this information to target areas for improvement and review our colleague offer as we strive to become a fully inclusive and diverse workforce.

A diverse and inclusive workforce is critical to achieving our NCH Strategy 2025 ambitions.

It is only by achieving a fairer and more equal workplace that we will truly represent the customers and communities we serve and become an employer of choice.

We are proud of our work to date, but we will continue to improve until there are no barriers to women and men undertaking any job role.

It’s important to note gender pay gap is different to equal pay. Men and women at Newport City Homes (NCH) receive equal pay for performing equal work.
