Newport City Homes (NCH) is joining the World’s Biggest Community Safety Meeting on Thursday 21 July as part of ASB Awareness Week 2022.

Organised by Resolve, the UK’s leading anti-social behaviour (ASB) and community safety organisation, the aim of the campaign is to get as many groups across the country as possible to have one big conversation about anti-social behaviour.

According to YouGov research commissioned by Resolve, 14% of people have been a victim of anti-social behaviour in the last 3 years, which would equate to 9.5 million people across the UK.

However, worryingly after they witnessed or experienced ASB, more than half of people (57%) said that they did not report it to anyone. One-third of people said that ASB has got worse in their local area compared with 3 years ago.

In joining the World’s Biggest Community Safety Meeting, NCH is urging others to join the conversation to help tackle anti-social behaviour.

A live Q&A will take place in the association’s online Facebook group for customers, NCH Connected, on Thursday 21 July between 5pm - 6pm.

Commenting, Liz Davis, Area Housing Manager, said:

Anti-social behaviour can ruin lives and devastate communities. We’re committed to doing all we can to tackle ASB alongside our community partners.

“Throughout this week, we’ll be sharing information and stories across our channels to raise awareness of ASB and how we can help.

“We understand that ASB is a particularly frustrating issue for some of our customers, and we’ll be listening closely to their views to help us understand how we can continue to address ASB within our communities.”

Rebecca Bryant OBE, Chief Executive of Resolve added:

“We are delighted that Newport City Homes is supporting this hugely important campaign. Talking about ASB and how it can be tackled is a key part in dealing with the growing challenges being faced in communities.”

“ASB can have a long-lasting impact on the lives of victims and communities, so having conversations around how to tackle it is really important.”

  • About Resolve
Resolve is a centre of excellence solely focused upon community safety and anti-social behaviour (ASB). We strongly advocate that community safety issues and ASB can be tackled effectively, and everyone has a right to feel safe. ASB should be treated as a priority, it is not low level and is a precursor to serious crime.

It is our mission to professionalise the sector by helping organisations to effectively deal with community safety and ASB issues through training, support, guidance and sharing best practice.

Tackling ASB and community safety is core business for all of our members, including social housing providers who collectively manage more than 3 million homes throughout the UK. Other members include Local Authorities, who make up 25% of our membership, housing law solicitors, mediation services and the Police.
