three men cut a ribbon to celebrate a new housing development

The upper floors of a landmark building in Newport city centre have been refurbished into 18 new apartments. Newport City Homes and its contractor converted the unused spaces inside the four-storey block on Upper Dock Street near Newport Market.

Matt Davies, executive director of development, from Newport City Homes, said: “This is our first development of homes that are solely for private rent. The housing crisis in Wales is affecting people with a variety of housing needs so these homes will play their part in assisting them.

“Tenants in the private sector will enjoy the many benefits and security of having a tenancy with us, Newport’s largest landlord. The income from these homes will be reinvested in our homes, work and services across Newport.

“Our contractor, Umbra Building Services, has done a brilliant job. The team had to work carefully so local businesses could remain open to customers throughout the project. Their work has enhanced the character of this well-known building.”

Michael Edwards, head of new homes for Wales’ largest letting agency, Peter Alan said: ‘’We are delighted to be working with Newport City Homes, once again, on this exciting development in the heart of the city Centre. It is fantastic to see this building reinvigorated to offer new homes to the private tenants. NCH are a quality landlord that will offer assurances and benefits to the tenants.”
