It’s National Careers Week this week.
National Careers Week (NCWCIC) is a celebration of careers guidance and free resources in education across the UK. The aim is to provide a focus for careers guidance activity at an important stage in the academic calendar to help support young people leaving education. With youth unemployment remaining high and employers citing that young people are ill prepared with the basic skills needed for employment, there has never been a bigger need for careers guidance to be promoted and celebrated in education.
Supporting our communities – Business Class Partnership
We’ve worked closely with Llanwern High School to support five parents of Llanwern students to achieve their own English and Maths GCSE – supporting them to progress further in the world of work.
Shakeel achieved a B in Maths GCSE and a C in English.
“It was a wonderful experience to be a GCSE parent-student in Llanwern High School! We had excellent academic sessions of maths and English and had a wonderful time with Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Faill, who were always helpful and supporting. I acknowledge and appreciate their efforts for making this dream possible for me.”
Naomi achieved a C in Maths GCSE and a B in English.
Why did you want to do the GCSEs?
I needed to improve my grades, so I can attend a University to study for teacher training with Qualified Teacher Status.

How was your experience over the last 12 months?
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience! There have been tears of joy and sadness on the journey, but it was all worth it in the end. Nic and Sian have been amazing, most of all, when Nic could see I was struggling she gave me confidence.”
