Our Milton Court customers received a lovely surprise last week when local residents and retailers donated more than £600 in food items to give our customers a helping hand over Christmas.

The group of Ringland and Alway residents are all previous customers of the Friendship Pub in Ringland and carry out fundraising for the community every year. Local resident Kraig Poyner helps to co-ordinate the fundraising and the group decided that this year, Milton Court should receive their kind donations. Local businesses Costcutter and Wilding & Kent in Ringland also contributed to the initiative.

In total, the group raised more than £620. Pupils from Llanwern High School supported the festivities by shopping for the items and bringing them all to Milton Court.

Area Housing Manager Liz Davis explains:

“We’re bowled over that Kraig and members of the community decided to support our customers at Milton Court this year.

“The cost-of-living crisis is having a significant effect on our customers, and this lovely gesture from the community goes a long way, especially at Christmas.”

The funds were used to purchase food, household items, meat and fruit and vegetables. NCH colleagues coordinated a free raffle for all customers to take part, with boxes of fruit and vegetables made available for all residents to help themselves.

“Our breakfast club for customers at Milton Court runs twice a week, and we’re able to provide breakfasts this week free of charge – all thanks to the generosity of the local community,” added Liz.
