Families will soon be moving in to our 18 new homes at Llys Victoria in Lliswerry.

We know the demand for one and two bedroom homes in this area of Newport is really high, which is why we’ve transformed the former Victoria Inn into modern apartments with sustainable energy solutions.

We were joined by local Councillors Andrew Sterry and James Peterson, as well as children from Lliswerry Primary school, to officially open the new homes, and take a tour to learn more about the innovative techniques involved in the build.

The project has been undertaken by local contractor Castell Group.

The sustainable design includes solar panels on the roof, and NexGen heated paper which is highly efficient and cost-effective to run. The heated paper is installed on the ceiling, which is then painted making it invisible, and freeing up space in the apartment.

The new development is situated within the Lliswerry ward, with good transport links, a nearby bus stop, shops and leisure facilities.

These new homes were made possible thanks to the support of Newport City Council and Welsh Government, with £2.17m funding through the Social Housing Grant.

The local community have been getting involved throughout the build too, and with support from Castell Group, we have installed a brand new bike storage facility at Lliswerry Primary School. The bike store will provide a safe and secure place for children to park their bikes, which will help to reduce traffic congestion around the school.

At St Andrews Primary School we provided gazebos and catering equipment for the community kitchen, to support them to hold future events.

We've also supported training and resources for children attending the Newport Cricket Club, and helped out at Christmas activities and events across the community in Broadmead and Moorland in 2023.
