We want to make sure that communities can stay safe and enjoy their celebrations during Bonfire Night. We're promoting Operation Bang - #OpBang - which encourages community safety during this season.

This time of year can be busy for emergency services across Newport. While most people will safely celebrate, there will be some who'll commit anti-social behaviour, placing themselves and others at risk of harm. The consequences of anti-social behaviour can have a long-term impact on someone's life, and those affected by these actions.

Here are our top three reminders for this time of year:

Look out for your neighbours

Bonfire Night can be intimidating for some people in our communities. This can lead to worry and fear in the run up to, and during, these holidays.

Please be mindful of others when celebrating and check in on those who you're concerned about if appropriate.

Avoid starting bonfires and using fireworks

Bonfires can easily get out of control, putting people's lives at risk. This can add pressure to emergency services during very busy times.

Please do your best to keep yourself and your family safe. Please do not stockpile waste in gardens in preparation for burning as this can attract rats and mice. Also, burning contaminated waste can be harmful when inhaled.

 Report any concerns you have

Every year, emergency services will be patrolling to maintain safety. But, if you have any concerns about potential anti-social behaviour in the run up to, or during, Bonfire Night or the festive period, please let us know.

You can contact your Neighbourhood Manager. You can also dial 101 to speak to the police if you have concerns about potential illegal activity or anti-social behaviour concerns. If you witness any criminal activity, please call 999 immediately.
