We want you to live and thrive in your communities. Our Neighbourhood Managers specialise in antisocial behaviour. They can support with a range of complaints and keep everyone safe. It doesn't matter how long you've lived in your home - we're here to help.
And here's how we can help you.
Working with our communities
Within a few weeks of having new neighbours, Kathy* realised that something wasn't quite right. There was nuisance noise and visitors all the time, no matter day or night. She contacted Newport City Homes, and that's when we got involved.
As a first course of action, we met with the contract holder of the property. We discovered that their partner was responsible for the noise and visitors. We offered our customer support and advice, but there was no change to the relationship or behaviours.
As a result, and in the interest of community safety, we obtained an injunction. This injunction is an order made at the county court. This banned the contract holder's partner from attending the address and the street. By breaching this order, the consequences would be immediate arrest.
Achieving justice together
Unfortunately, things escalated. Despite our interventions, the partner entered the street and the property. Even after arrest, the behaviour repeated. We had to take extra actions to keep the community safe. We applied to the court for possession of the home, evicting the contract holder as a result.
It's in our best interest to keep our communities safe. The behaviour in this instance risked the health, safety, and well-being of all. Although it took a long time, we are passionate about bringing justice to your neighbourhood so you can keep enjoying where you live.
As for Kathy, she said:
"When my neighbours moved in, I realised that there was a lot of noise and many people coming and going. I reported it to Newport City Homes. It took 18 months to sort the issues, but everything takes time, and you must do it by the law, we got there in the end.
With patience and perseverance, I did everything they asked. I made notes every day - what time the visitors came, the noise they made, and I also photographed everything. Newport City Homes told me to not give up. I didn’t think they could do it, and I couldn’t believe it when they informed me that they'd been to court and were going to evict my neighbour.
Newport City Homes have done a marvellous job. We got the outcome we wanted. It's now a lovely community again."
