Whether you are leaving Newport City Homes or transferring to a new property, moving home can be a difficult time.

We want to you to make your move as problem free as possible.

During you notice period you will have time to make sure your property is cleared of all furniture and belongings and damage is repaired.

Remember:

  • You are liable to pay any rent and other charges until your tenancy ends, even if you move out or return the keys early.
  • All keys must be returned at the latest by midday on the Monday stated on your termination acknowledgement letter.
  • Any delay in the return of keys will result in additional charges

Cost of repairs

We re-charge residents for any costs incurred in bringing a property up to a lettable standard.

If any damage other than general wear and tear is found or alterations have been made without permission granted in writing, you should rectify the damage to avoid being charged for the work after you leave.

You are likely to be charged for:

  1. Replacement doors

Where you have replaced standard doors, where possible, original doors should be refitted by a professional carpenter. Where this is not possible, doors that remain should be unglazed and in a ‘reasonable condition’. A standard plywood flush door about £125 and includes associated ironmongery.

Fire doors are subject to fire regulations and costs may vary depending on the relevant fire regulations. Please contact maintenance for further advice. All installers will require public liability insurance.

  1. Flooring

All damaged or unusable flooring should be removed. Exposed tiles/flooring should be clean and tidy.

  1. Electrical works

Any non-standard light fittings/fan lights/ceiling fans should be removed by a qualified electrician and replaced with standard electrical fittings that would have been installed when you first moved in.

All electrical work must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Your installer must be NICEIC approved and some work will require certification. Please contact maintenance for further advice. The installer must have public liability insurance.

  1. Damage

All damage to fixtures and fittings should be rectified. You will be charged the cost of the repair.

  1. Rubbish removal

All personal items should be cleared from attic spaces, the property and garden areas (front and back).

The cost of clearing rubbish will vary depending on the amount of rubbish for removal.
