What is a budgeting loan?

Budgeting loans can help with essential lump sum expenses that can be difficult to allocate money for.

It can be used to help with furniture and household equipment, clothing and footwear.

Housing support may be able to access charities or apply for benevolent grants for essential household items. This depends on household income.

The advantage of a budgeting loans is that you repay the loan over an agreed period but it is interest-free, so you only pay back what you have borrowed. The loan is taken back from your ongoing benefit payments.

How can I apply?

To apply, you need to find out if you're eligible for a budgeting loan.

If you have been claiming certain benefits for at least 6 months, you might meet the criteria.
