Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of waste, either household or commercial, in streets, green spaces and wasteland.

Fly-tipping pollutes the environment, attracts pests and causes significant risk to people and wildlife. In recent years, we have spent in excess of £100,000 on clearing up waste dumped illegally, money which could have been better spent on improving our communities.
Help us to keep your community clean and safe

We aim to stamp out fly-tipping by:

- Providing guidance on how to dispose of waste responsibly

- Prosecuting offenders by working with residents, communities and Newport City Council.

We need your help to stamp out fly-tipping. Please report any incidents of fly-tipping by one of the following:

- Telephoning (01633) 381111

- Visiting our one of our offices

- Notify us through Twitter @NewportCityH or via Facebook at NewportCityH

- Completing an online reporting form.

We are working with Newport City Council to prosecute those responsible for spoiling our communities by fly-tipping. This is an offence which can carry a fine of up to £5,000. For more information about waste collection in your area, visit the Newport City Council webpage here.

Household Waste

Household waste is collected on a weekly basis by the Council. If you have additional bags of household waste which don’t fit in your bin, you can either take these to a civil amenity site free of charge, or pay a small fee for the Council to collect them.

Electrical Items

Fridges, freezers, televisions and many other electrical items can be recycled free of charge at a civic amenity site, also known as household recycling centres.
Alternatively you could contact Footprintmatters2U on (01633) 294000 who will collect electrical items from your home or the Council will collect them for a fee.

Furniture Collections

If you have unwanted furniture  or soft furnishings which could be re-used then you could contact the Raven House Trust on (01633) 762999 or Wastesavers Community Furniture Project on (01633) 216855, who will collect the items. However, if the items are not re-usable then you can arrange for the Council to collect them for a small fee by telephoning (01633) 656656.

Improving Our Communities

The success of our anti-fly-tipping campaign will allow our Estate Caretakers to be able to spend more time improving our communities by:

- Clearing overgrowth in communal gardens

- Planting communal gardens

- Working with community groups and local projects

- Working with our Neighbourhoods team and residents on ‘Clean Up’ events across the city

- Assisting in regeneration projects in our neighbourhoods. Click on the Regeneration  page to find  out more.

If you are a community or resident group and have an idea for a project to improve your environment or community why not apply for our Making a Difference Fund? Contact us by calling (01633) 381111, or sending us a message on our Twitter or Facebook pages.
