Social enterprise buys new van thanks to funding
A social enterprise offering training for people with additional needs has received £5,000 through Newport City Homes’ Making a Difference Fund.

Reseiclo Training is a day service for people with additional learning needs and mental health issues. It provides carpentry-based practical work to coach, empower and support individuals in recognising their own strengths.

Project director Mike Cook explained: “I started Reseiclo Training in 2015. There were very few day services available in Newport. I rent the facilities from Reseiclo Woodstore. We make things on commission to the general public. Anyone can come in, say they want something, and we will endeavour to make it.”

Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO) supported Reseiclo Training in applying for Newport City Homes’ Making a Difference Fund. The fund is available to people or organisations who wish to develop a project which will support the community.

Senior community development officer for GAVO, Jane Shatford commented: “This is a wonderful organisation that really makes a difference to the lives of those with learning difficulties and other disabilities. It is clear to see that the trainees gain confidence and increase their self-esteem as well as learn a wide range of practice carpentry skills.”

Through the £5,000 of funding, Reseiclo Training have been able to purchase a van that can transport six volunteers along with their equipment around Newport.

Newport City Homes’ community investment officer Julie Gower said: “Newport City Homes is committed to making a difference in our communities. We are delighted that Reseiclo Training have been able to purchase a van through our Making a Difference Fund. The van was a necessity for the group to be able to expand their work across Newport.”

Reseiclo Training are currently looking for more volunteers. If you would like to get involved, contact Mike Cook on 07967 525 5224 or
